Battleground: Treachery

Battleground: Treachery

The Targets of Demonic Attack

Last message we studied how the enemy attacks those on Jesus path along three avenues: lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life.  (If you haven’t heard, or studied the sermon notes from the “Battleground: Three Evil Attacks”, then I hope you will indulge me by starting there in order to better set the stage.  Punch this link: Battleground: Three Evil Attacks)  Last week it was the avenues of demonic attack. This message deals with the nine principle targets of demonic attack.

Key Bible Verse

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law…
Galatians 5:22-23

But why focus on the Fruit of the Spirit?  Because God’s Fruit offer vital evidence of the active Presence and Persuasion of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Believer.  When present, they are the signature and governing influence of God Himself.  These, then, are the same places where the devil and his crowd hope to discredit and displace us from our rightful inheritance of effectual living for Christ. These are the areas where the enemy fights to bring shame and dishonor to the Name of God.

Take Aways

The manner and mode of the enemy is to counterfeit; to fabricate and represent as real
those things that are false.  The devil spends very little time in creative efforts – he is matched up against the Perfection of the Most High God and there can be no improvement there.  Consequently his focus is (1) to clone and cloak his agenda in a form that mimics the Almighty and (2) to mock God by fostering lifestyles in people which are the photo-negatives of the Fruit of the Spirit.

The Battle Plan at Restart Church is to first educate and then encourage personal self-assessment to look for evidence of that “opposite fruit” (Christ calls them “tares” or weeds.)  My approach is to train us to evaluate ourselves and to recognize tares when we see them.  Once we do we can climb up to Bible Ground in facing these shortfalls directly in the power of the Spirit of The Most High God.

We begin with the Fruit of Love.  We want to explore the Bible for examples of the opposite of love (the tares sown in with God’s love) – in order to receive instruction about the evidences of tares in our living…  Let’s begin!  What noun comes to mind when you consider the opposite of love?  The word “hate” comes quickly to mind.   And hate is certainly appropriate, but what about a noun more active, sinister, and malignant?  How about a noun which stuns with crippling venom in these areas:

  • Violation of allegiance
  • Violation of faith
  • Violation of confidence

And that noun is Treachery.  Treachery is where intentions and actions begin with the full color and fabric of sincere love, but turn wicked and savage, violating trust and affection.  Whoa there, Pastor Bob… are you saying I am Treacherous?  No Friend, what I am saying is that if you find evidence of the following five tares – it means that the devil and his crowd have launched a successful (yes, successful) campaign against the Fruit of God’s Love in your life.  This is something you must give attention to and gain mastery over if you are to live productively for Christ!  These five tares are spoken about in the Word.  You don’t need opinions from some Pastor!  You need to study and live on Bible Ground.  Here are the five tares…

  • Greed for more than you have
  • Willful disobedience
  • Inattention to spiritual nourishment
  • Drawn to secular success
  • Misplaced trust

All five of these are specifically linked to Treachery by the Word of God.  Where there is Treachery there are demons.  You find these tares and you find demons attacking the target of the Fruit of God’s Love in you.  Time to roll up your sleeves, Friend.  Please check out the video to see how I elaborate these points.  Lord bless and keep you as you seek to understand your way on the Jesus Path.

There is every reason for you to study this Series as if your life depended on it.
